Normally when I am talking with someone about a book I have read I focus on two main aspects: The author’s writing style and the content of the book. For So Much More Than Sexy I think I am going to focus merely on the content as it was definitely something that spoke to my heart as a woman.
Over the years I have really struggled with self-esteem in the physical appearance department and I think it is fair to say that every woman has at some point in her life. We tend to be very focused on how we look and measure ourselves up against other women. We want to look better for our husbands, fiancés, boyfriends, or that Mr. Right that is still to come. Sometimes it can be a lot of pressure to be a woman, especially when we are standing in front of the mirror.
What I love about So Much More Than Sexy is that Mark Atteberry relieves some of that pressure. He talks about “The Myth in the Mirror” and how we believe we need to look a certain way to be loved or liked by others. It truly is a myth and the author dispels it by telling us the truth about what really matters to the men we are married to or hope to marry. Atteberry talks a lot about what it means to be so much more than sexy. He writes about our hearts, our relationship with God and others, and cultivating our brains. Beauty really does begin on the inside. So Much More Than Sexy gave me a chance to really think about the truth about my own image in the eyes of God, my husband, and others.
If you are a woman, I definitely encourage you to read this book. I would love to know what you think and what ideas from the book you really connected to.
