This is Seattle: The First Starbucks

by Amber Hayes on July 21, 2009

Starbucks The Pike Place Market is full of hustle and bustle as people are coming and going to buy their produce, their flowers, and their fish.  Locals are here to shop and tourists are here for the true Seattle experience.  Men are throwing fish, kids are selling cherries at the family stands, and street musicians are serenading you on each corner.

But tucked in, right across from this Seattle market, lies a little coffee shop.  It is most definitely one of the smallest shops I have been to but by far the busiest.  The line extends out the door, but in July this is no problem.  The weather is fine and there are almost always street musicians right outside the shop.

When you finally make it inside you are greeted by wooden floors, a butcher block counter top housing various types of coffee beans, cardboard boxes stacked to the ceiling, and cups being tossed across the store to the baristas on the bar.  The drinks are all familiar but the look is definitely different than you might expect.

Without a doubt, when in Seattle, visit the first Starbucks!
