Limeade for the Fourth

by Amber Hayes on July 4, 2009

Fresh limeade or lemonade seems to always be a must at a summer picnic or BBQ, especially on the Fourth of July.  Here are a couple recipes for limeade that I actually got from Martha Stewart.com.

Limes

All-American Limeade (Mint optional)
Ingredients
Makes 3 quarts
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups packed fresh mint leaves
  • 2 1/2 cups fresh lime juice (about 20 limes), plus 4 limes, thinly sliced crosswise, for garnish
  • 1 1/2 cups superfine sugar
Directions
1. Bring granulated sugar and 1 cup water to a boil in a medium pan over high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour. Add sugar syrup and mint to a blender; puree. Pour through a very fine mesh sieve into a large serving container; discard solids.

2. Add lime juice, superfine sugar, and 2 quarts water to a serving container. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate until ready to serve, up to 1 day.

3. To serve, add ice cubes to fill and garnish with lime slices.
Feel free to use less limes or dilute it with a little water if it is too strong.

Sparkling limeadeSparkling Limeade

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 6 limes)
  • 2 liters of seltzer water

Directions
1. Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan; place over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar has completely dissolved, about 5 minutes.

2. Remove from heat; transfer to an ice bath to cool, or let stand at room temperature until cool. Stir in lime juice. Fill large pitcher with ice, pour in the limeade, and top with seltzer. Stir well and serve.

Definitely try these and I would love to hear how it turns out or if there are any changes you made to make it even better!
