Jim and I both love Thai food. It is a love that began and developed on one of our trips to Washington D.C. We stayed in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and it was there, on King Street, that we tried Thai food for the very first time. After thoroughly enjoying our meals at two different Thai places in Alexandria we decided to scout out some places in the Denver area. There are several good places to get Thai food in Denver, but we definitely have a couple favorites that are close to home.
Wild Ginger:
I guess I would have to say that Wild Ginger is our favorite Thai place in the Denver area. We have definitely not tried every restaurant that serves Thai food, but of those we have visited, Wild Ginger is our favorite. We first heard about Wild Ginger from a pastor of a church we were visiting. He spent five minutes of his sermon describing in great detail his traditional order at this Thai restaurant. (Yes, it did in fact have something to do with the sermon)!
Being Thai food lovers, or just food lovers in general, we quickly found where Wild Ginger was located and made plans to try it out later that week. We ordered exactly what the pastor recommended and loved it all!
What we typically order at Wild Ginger:
- Tom Kha Gai Soup (Coconut chicken soup)
- Massaman Curry
- Pad Thai
- Coconut ice cream
Little Basil Asian Grill:
Little Basil Asian Grill is five minutes from our home and we drive past it almost every day. We hadn’t ever paid much attention to this place because it is located in a small corner of a strip mall, next to the grocery store and Dairy Queen. Thankfully, growing up my dad taught me that some of the best food is located in the most unexpected locations; the true “hole-in-the-wall.” We finally decided it might be worth a try.
Having a review-reading husband, I was quickly advised to get on Yelp and look up what others were saying about Little Basil. Though there were very few reviews at the time, almost every review was good. I was surprised to see that many people suggested that we order the green curry chicken. I also learned from Yelp that Little Basil offers take-out. Jim and I hadn’t ordered take-out in a very long time and decided it would be fun. I picked up the phone, dialed the number, and the rest is history. We now love Little Basil!
What we typically order at Little Basil Asian Grill:
- Coconut chicken soup (Tom Kha Gai)
- Green curry with chicken
- Peanut curry with chicken
